Description

Nervilia plicata is a terrestrial orchid characterised by a single leaf appearing after flowering in March to May. The leaf of this species is broadly heart-shaped with purplish-brown and measures at about 9 -10 cm wide with white hairs on both surfaces and the tip shortly acuminate. The inflorescence of this species has two flowered and both its sepals and petals are pale olive green to dull pale purplish, narrowly lanceolate with very acute tip and measure at about 2.5 – 3.5 cm long. The distribution of this species occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Deccan, Orissa, Bengal, Sikkim, eastwards to Burma, Thailand, Indochina, Philippines, Java, Sumatra, New Guinea and Australia.
