Vatica scortechinii or resak langgung in Malay is an endemic species and can only be found in Peninsular Malaysia (Yong et al., 2011). This medium sized tree has been recorded in Kledang Saiong Forest Reserve and Bubu FR in Perak, Kuala Teku in National Park, Pahang and in Terengganu. It inhabits lowland areas up to hill dipterocarp forests at altitudes of 800 m (Suhaida, 2012).

Resak langgung could be distinguished by its stipules and leaves. It has large, semi-persistent, subfalcate stipules that are sometimes longer than 2.5 cm and its leaves are elliptic-oblong, often longer than 18 cm, usually rounded at the base, narrowing to the blunt-acuminate apex, has about 12-14 nerves or more, and is leathery in texture. The flower is pale yellow with a slight pale red patch at the tip. The fruit is about 5 mm long while the nut is globose and is about 15 mm across when ripen. The girth of this tree is about 1.5 m and without buttresses. Its cylindrical bole has patches of dark brown and pastel shades of white and orange (Suhaida, 2012). 

This species falls under the Endangered Category according to Malaysia Plant Red List Category as there has been a noticeable degradation of its habitat due to land conversion and logging activities (Chua et al., 2010; Suhaida, 2012; Yong, 2012).
