Description

Ardea intermedia is a species of bird that belongs to the family Ardeidae (Heron). It is known as Plumed Egret or Bangau Kendi in Malay. This bird is intermediate in size which can be measured up to 68 cm. The plumages are all white including on the breast and back but not the nape, short bill, and bare facial skin that is always yellow. The legs and toes are all black (Davison, 1995).

The Plumed Egret can be distinguished from the Great Egret (Ardea alba) by the length of its bill and softer curve to the neck, while the Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) can be distinguished by the yellow bill colour. This species can be found in mangroves, mudflats, rice fields, and swamps, mainly coastal. It occurs from Africa through central and southern Asia to Japan and Australia (Davison, 1995).
