Description
Melanoperdix nigra also known as the black wood-partridge is a small-sized bird with measurements around 24 cm in length (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993). The male partridges are being described as glossy black with blackish brown wings, while the female partridges are dark chestnut with throat and belly whitish buff.
The black wood partridge is characterized by its plump bodies and attractive pattern with combination of brown, black and white. The partridges move on the forest floor in small groups. Its dark plumage provides camouflage on the poorly light forest floor. Its diets consist of insects, larvae and fallen seed on the forest floor. This species can be found in Peninsular Malaysia and commonly resides in lowland forest.
