Sphenomorphus sungaicolus is an endemic skink in Peninsular Malaysia. It can reach at least 89.6 mm SVL. On the dorsal side, the ground colour of the head, body, limbs and tails are earthy brown. Also, it has numerous thin, faded, light-coloured transverse markings on the dorsal side continuing onto the tail to form rectangular markings. It occurs in riparian areas coursing through lowland dipterocarp forest, along the edges of the watercourse. The species epithet is derived from two words, which is “Sungai” in Malay word meaning river, and “-colus” in Latin, meaning “dweller in”, combining these two words means the obligate riparian nature of this skink (Sumarli et al., 2016).
