Description

Appias lyncida, commonly known as Chocolate Albatross is a species of butterfly under family Pieridae. It is measuring about 3.0 cm (Kirton, 2014). The male has yellow underside on the hindwing and white underside on the forewing, with brown chocolate borders on both wings. Its upperside is white with black termen edged. Slightly different from male, the female has paler yellow underside and brown upperside with white streaks, which differ in length (Kirton, 2014).

The Chocolate Albatross is widely distributed in Sri Lanka and India to South China, through Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and the Southeast Asian islands. It is commonly found in inland forests at all elevations, including disturbed forests (Kirton, 2014). The male can be seen often congregated in damp places on the roadside and along the river banks while the rarer female is usually found flying among the forest undergrowth (Corbet & Pendelbury, 1978).
