Description
Savanna nightjar (Caprimulgus affinis) measuring about 25cm in length is a species of nightjar found in South and Southeast Asia and belongs to the family Caprimulgidae. This species is nocturnal and frequents all open country habitats, and grasslands with open stony patches.
The upperparts of C. affinis are brownish-grey and vermiculated, with pale brown speckles while the underparts are brown, with bars. Its nest is a scrape in the open ground. The female lays a clutch of two eggs (light brown with mottled light brown and black patches). Both adults will incubate the eggs. When threatened, the adult C. affinis will fly off to a short distance away and pretend to be injured in order to lure the predator away.
