The Chinese Crested Tern (Thalasseus bernsteini) is one of the crested terns recorded from the coast of Sarawak, Malaysia (Phillipps & Phillipps, 2014). It is exclusively coastal and pelagic in distribution (IUCN, 2018). This tern species can be differentiated from other species by its bill pattern, which is dark tip to yellow-orange bill (Phillipps & Phillipps, 2014). This species is poorly known and the total population is less than 100 individuals, and because of the disturbance and the loss of coastal wetlands, this species is being categorised as Critically Endangered.
