Description
Pericrocotus speciosus is a small passerine bird, measuring up to 22 cm in length. It is known as scarlet minivet in English or mas belukar in Malay. Scarlet minivet is called so because the male has scarlet underparts, tail edges, rump and wing patches, with black upperparts and head. Meanwhile, the female has yellow underparts, tail edges, rump and wing patches, with grey above. Also, it has a strong dark beak and long wings. Its main diet is insects. This species can be found in tropical southern Asia from the Indian subcontinent east to southern China and Southeast Asia (including Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Malay Peninsula, Borneo and the Philippines).
