The blyth's shrike-babbler (Pteruthius aeralatus) is a babbler bird species found in the eastern Himalayas, Southeast Asia and the Highlands of Malaya. Like others in the genus, it is found in montane forests. It is a tiny, robust bird with a big head typically seen at mid-level height from the ground. The males are smartly attired with black head, and the supercilium are white, grey on the rest of the upperparts, black tail and wings, pale grey underparts as well as for the chestnut tertials. Meanwhile, the females have similar overall pattern with the males, but they are significantly more faded. They frequently joins mixed flocks. According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, this babbler is being categorised as Least Concern species (BirdLife International, 2016).
