Description
Leptocoma calcostetha is a small-sized sunbird belonging to the family Nectariniidae. It is more commonly called copper-throated sunbird. Copper-throated sunbird is a coastal specialist. The male copper-throated sunbird has uniformly dark with an iridescent coppery throat, purple breast and belly and green cap shine when it is in good light condition. In poor light, it appears all black (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993). The female has greyish head and underparts with dark olive upperparts. It occurs in Southeast Asia, which includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. Frequently, this sunbird visits flowering trees and shrubs with other species.
