Description
Psilopogon chrysopogon or Gold-whiskered barbet is frugivores which feeds on small berries, seeds, figs, and any edible fruits they can find. This barbet occurs in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar where it is usually found in lowland foothills, but rarely in evergreen forests and swamp forests. It also found in cocoa plantations and tall secondary growth forests.
The golden-whiskered barbet is one of the largest species of barbets in Southeast Asia measuring at 24 cm to 30 cm in length. It has green plumage with large yellow "whiskered" cheek patches, and the rear half of its crown varies from red to red-flecked blue and dull grey throat. Both sexes are alike but female mandible appears paler and bluish dusk while the juvenile has an overall duller plumage.
