Description
Ptilinopus melanospilus is a medium size fruit dove measuring up to 28 cm in length. It is commonly known as black-naped fruit dove. The male can be identified by its green body, pale grey face, black nape and yellow belly. In comparison, the female can be identified by its dark green body with a bluish face. It has a ringing sound, awook-wook.
This species is distributed in Southeast Asia, mainly Indonesia. It is an uncommon resident in the southern Philippines and off Sabah, Malaysia. P. melanospilus is a secretive fruit dove as it is not easily spotted and can be located mostly by its call.
