Psilopogon rafflesii or commonly known as the Red-crowned barbet is a medium-sized bird measuring about 26 cm in length. This species is endemic throughout Sundaland. It inhabits primary and secondary lowland rainforest of Peninsular Malaysia where it frequently be seen on the canopy and middle storey of the forest (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993).
The red-crowned barbet has green plumages, red crown and yellow patch on its cheek. It also has black facial mask and blue throat. This bird feeds mainly on ripe fruits. It produces a series of monotonous hoots (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993). Due to habitat loss, this species has been listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN Red List (BirdLife International, 2020).
