The Rough-sided Frog is a medium-sized to large species of frog which has a broad head and prominent eyes. Its colour is ranged from brown to dark brown with dark spots on the back. The sides are light brown and have large dark blotches while the chin, throat, chest and belly are whitish with many brown spots. Its toes are only half webbed, and have thickened, triangular pads at the tips. The skin is covered with slightly raised, round bumps that are most prominent along the sides of the body and the tops of the legs. It feeds on insects and other invertebrates (Inger & Stuebing, 2005).
This frog can makes one of the loudest calls among the ranids. The females may not reach as big as the males where as the males can reaching a maximum size of 92mm in snout-vent length (SVL) while the females reaching a maximum of 83mm in snout-vent length. This species inhabits primary forest and coastal mangrove. In Ulu Muda Forest Reserved, the Rough-sided Frog was collected along riverbanks and on boulders in streams at the altitude as high as 700m above sea level. It can be found in Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, 2017).
