Description
Ixos mcclellandii is a medium-sized songbird belonging to the bulbul family. I. mcclellandii is also known as mountain bulbul and has a long, slim bill and a large square, olive-yellow tail. The mantle and wings are rich with olive-yellow colour, while the belly is whitish. There are fine whitish streaks on the mountain bulbul’s brown crown and greyish brown throat. Usually, a loose party up to five will be gathering together to feed on fruiting trees and shrubs with other birds. Besides fruit, mountain bulbul also consumes nectar and insects.
Mountain bulbul occurs from the Himalayas and southern China through Southeast Asia and the Malay Peninsula. It can be found in the forests and forest edges and is fairly common above 1000 m.
