Description
Mortonagrion aborense (Blue Midget) is a damselfly species in family Coenagrionidae. Its hindwing may measure up to 15 mm and the length from its abdomen to anal appendage is about 24.5 mm long. The male individual has black above on its abdominal segment 8, entire blue on segment 9 with variable blue marks on segment 10. The superior anal appendage almost as long as segment 10 and down-turned with short inferior anal appendage and strong blue banding on thorax. While the female has similar marked as male except the abdominal color on segment 9-10 which are black above. The Blue Midget is widespread in Sundaland and mainland tropical Asia (Orr, 2005). It normally breeds in forest streams, shady marshes and ponds but sometimes, it can also be found outside of the forest. It is always in the vicinity of forest and probably depends on some forest cover for its survival (Subramanian, 2010).
