Description

Aethriamanta aethra, a small-sized skimmer dragonfly commonly known as Blue adjutant belonging to the family Libellulidae (Lok & Tang, 2012). This species inhabits marshes, open swamps forests, and well-vegetated ponds. It is distributed in Southeast Asia including Malaysia (Tang et al., 2010; Dow, 2011). Both males and females have black hairs on the thorax and a conspicuous dark brown patch at the base of the hindwings. The final four segments of the males' abdomens are darker than the last five segments, which allows for easy differentiation between them and the females (Tang et al., 2010).
