Description

Ictinogomphus decoratus (Common Flangetail) is a large species of dragonfly which its hindwing can measure up to 39 mm. This dragonfly is normally found at drainages, ponds and lakes in countryside. It is frequently spotted perching and patrolling near water's edge (Orr, 2005; Choong et al., 2017). It is widespread from Sundaland to Indochina and Palawan. The Common Flangetail has a heavily built body with straight and simple anal appendage. There are also two green lateral bands on its synthorax. Both male and female have similar body markings. The larva is round in shape, concave underside and clings to the underside of lily pads (Orr, 2005).
