Among the species from the family Gomphidae, Microgomphus chelifer or also known as Tiny Sheartail is the smallest species of dragonfly with hindwing measuring up to 19 mm. Males and females have similar markings on body. This species has a wide distribution in Sundaland (Choong et al., 2018). M. chelifer is normally found at forest streams with gravel and sand as a substrate.  Sometimes, the female is spotted with a cluster of eggs, in which an egg cluster consists hundreds of tiny eggs, at the tip of her abdomen.
