Dysphaea dimidiata or commonly known as Black Velvetwing is a species of damselfly in family Euphaeidae. It has a moderate size with quite heavily built body and hindwing length which measure about 31mm. The whole body and parts of its wings are in dark blue and will display a beautiful iridescent blue colour on its wings at certain angle under the sun. The Female is rather dull in colour with yellowish brown (Choong et al., 2017). Black Velvetwing is commonly found in swift and slower flowing forest streams and rivers in lowlands. It is widespread in Sundaland and Thailand (Orr, 2005). Sometimes, the male is spotted perching with its wings outspread. This open wing perching behaviour is quite extraordinary for damselfly species (Choong et al., 2017).
