Taxonomy

Description

Cratilla metallica (Metallic Dragonfly) is a species of dragonfly in the family Libellulidae with the hindwing measuring up to 38 mm in both sex. It can easily be recognized by the dark wing-tips with slate blue on abdomen and metallic green on its thorax. The female has similar wings to male but lacking blue at the abdomen with three yellow lines laterally on synthorax. Its abdomen is relatively much longer than the female of Agrionoptera sexlineata. The Metallic Dragonfly is commonly found on the closed forest at an altitude up to 900 m above sea level. It normally breeds in shallow forest pools and sometimes at large phytotelmata (a small water-filled cavity in a terrestrial plant). It is widespread in tropical Asia (Orr, 2005).
