Description
Lyriothemis cleis (Crimson Bombardier) is a species of dragonfly in the family Libellulidae. Its hindwing may measure up to 36 mm. The female is variegated brown. This species can be separated from other medium-sized, red libellulids by the dull color of the abdomen with well-defined segments and metallic color of the head. It also has numerous venational details and main veins in hindwings which are strongly recurved. Crimson Bombardier is a widely distributed species capable of surviving in disturbed forests. It is commonly found in mixed dipterocarp forest understorey with an altitude up to 1000 m above sea level. It is widespread in Sundaland, southern Thailand, the Philippines and Sulawesi (Orr, 2005).
