Description
Lyriothemis magnificata is a species of dragonfly in the family Libellulidae. It is the largest of red dragonflies where its hindwing may measure up to 40 mm. It also has a metallic head and venation diagnostic which the main veins of hindwing are little recurved. L. magnificata is commonly found in forest understorey, especially in the vicinity of bamboo with the altitude up to 800 m above sea level. It normally breeds in water-filled tree-holes, bamboo stumps and small leafy ground pools. It is widespread in Sundaland and Thailand (Orr, 2005). This species is threatened by deforestation, large-scale hydroelectric projects and plantation establishment (Dow, 2011).
