Description

Nisaetus cirrhatus is a species of birds that belongs to the family Accipitridae (Hawks and Eagle). It is also known as Changeable Hawk Eagle or Helang Hindek in Malay. It can be found in plantations, or logged forests. It occurs throughout south-east Asia from India to the Philippines (Davison, 1995).

The Changeable Hawk Eagle is a large raptor with very broad wings and a long rounded-ended tail. It has no crest. Some individuals are nearly white, and others are nearly black (Davison, 1995). The dark phase birds are blackish-brown, with pale flight feathers on underside of wing; and grey under base of tail which can distinguished from the Black Eagle (Ictinaetus malayensis). While the light phase birds are dark brown above, and nearly white below with several narrow bands on tail and wings (Robson, 2000).
