Description

Scaphochlamys baukensis differs in comparison to other species from the same genus Scaphochlamys in terms of its broad obovate leaves, small compact rachis and tiny flowers. This species is endemic to Terengganu.

Other than broadly obovate lamina and crisped floral bracts, there are other morphological differences that distinguish it from other similar taxa. This species is very similar to S. pusilla but differs in terms of the lamina shape. Floral characteristics are different for these two species after having a closer examination of the inflorescence. S. pusilla has smaller floral bracts compared to S. baukensis and the cincinnus of S. pusilla consist of many flowers compared to S. baukensis. The other differences are the size of staminodes and the structure of stigma. The size of staminodes and corolla lobes of S. pusilla is similar while the length of the S. baukensis staminodes is only half of corolla lobes. S. pusilla has a beak-like and ciliated stigma, meanwhile, S. baukensis has a funnel-shaped and densely hairy stigma.
