Description

Scaphochlamys endauensis is endemic to Johor. Previously, S. endauensis was wrongly identified as S. oculata but S. oculata was found to have a smaller number of flowers in each cincinnus compared to S. endauensis. S. oculata also has bright red streak whereas S. endauensis has purple coloured streaks beside the yellow median band on the labellum.

However, S. endauensis is more similar to S. breviscapa. The difference between these two species was that S. breviscapa has a terete cross section of the petiole, while S. endauensis has channelled petiole. Furthermore, the bladeless sheath size for S. breviscapa was longer than S. endauensis and S. breviscapa’s leaf sheath is consistently shorter than S. endauensis. S. breviscapa also has elliptic to broadly ovate lamina with acute apex and rounded or cuneate base, while S. endauensis lamina is elliptic to oblanceolate with broadly acute to obtuse apex and cuneate to attenuate base. In addition, S. breviscapa also has smaller floral bracts as compared to S. endauensis. The staminodes of S. breviscapa are linear ones with truncate apex which differ from the oblanceolate with broadly acute to near rounded apex in S. endauensis.
