The rare Mountain Bronzeback is a close counterpart of the commonly found Painted Bronzeback.  This snake has a black tongue and also differs in coloration and head shape.  The head of this species is longer and it has black markings behind the nostrils. The head and neck are olive green and the ventral surface is white. It is found on forested plains and hills up to 460m.
