The fruit body is spherical but flattened sessile, bumpy, dull reddish brown to purplish brown and turning black. The surface layer is thin and smooth while the inside of the stromata is fibrous and dark brown to brownish black with concentric zones. This fungus grows on dead stumps and logs in exposed areas in the forest.
