Taxonomy

Description

Argiocnemis rubescens (Red-tipped Shadefly) is a damselfly species in family Coenagrionidae. It has moderately robust build with pointed wing-tips. The immatures male has pale green head and thoracic markings with red abdomen while adults have all markings blue. Similar to male, the female has red abdomen when young, turned to olive colour markings on head and thorax with entirely dark above the abdomen as it becomes matured. Its hindwing may measure up to 17mm (Orr, 2005). This damselfly inhabits clear water in drains, ponds and marshes at forest edges and in swampy forest. It is widespread throughout Indo-Australian tropics (Mitra, 2017).
