Description

Rhyothemis plutonia, commonly known as Greater Blue Wing is a dragonfly species in the family Libellulidae. Its hindwing may measure up to 32 mm. It can easily be recognized by its very broad and dark wings with strong purplish-green iridescence. The female is similar to the male. It likes to perch in sunny patches with depressed or angled wings away from the sun. This dragonfly is rare and can be found near slow moving channels in lowland swamp forests. It is widespread in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and mainland tropical Asia (Orr, 2005).
