Taxonomy

Description

Neurothemis terminata, commonly known as Straight-edge Red Parasol is a dragonfly species belonging to family Libellulidae. Its hindwing may measure up to 31 mm for male and has only a small hyaline area at the wingtips while the female has amber-tinted hyaline markings patterned similar to the male or clear wings tipped with brown. The Straight-edge Red Parasol normally breeds in ponds, drains and marshes in open, disturbed habitats at the altitude up to 1,500 m above sea level. It is a rare species in Peninsular Malaysia and it is widespread in Sundaland and the Philippines (Orr, 2005).
