Description

Oligoaeschna foliacea is a species of dragonfly belonging to the family Aesnidae. It is commonly known as Common Paddletail (Wilson & Gibert, 2006). Its hindwing may measure about 39-41 mm in length. The abdomen of this species is swollen around segments 4-6. The male has a leaf-like superior anal appendage that can clearly be seen in lateral view. While the female has a different feature with a rounded hindwing base and the abdomen is less constricted than the male. Oligoaeschna foliacea can be found in wooded swampy areas (Orr, 2005). It is distributed in Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore (Orr, 2005; Dow, 2019).
