The cap of this fungus is convex that expanding convex-plane with a distinct short, pointed umbo, pale smoky grey or mouse grey to blackish grey, fibrillose, dry, smooth and finely striate at the margin which splits at maturity. The gills are crowded and cream turning pale salmon pink while the stipe is generally cylindrical but flaring slightly towards the swallon base at soil level. It is pale smoke grey but cream at the apex and top one-third and fibrous with a small hollow centre. This fungus is easily recognized by its cap colour and swallon base and it grows in small numbers on the soil from buried termitaria.
