The fruit body of this fungus is brown with minute darker brown scales and giving it a texture like very fine sandpaper. Its pseudo-stem turns pale reddish when cut and the apex of the fruit body ruptures releasing the powdery dark grey spores when mature. This fungus can often be found growing in small clusters on the soil and it is a common ectomycorrhizal fungus both at FRIM and in lowland rainforests of the peninsula.
