The taxonomic status is pending for approval

Description

Known as Keruing mempelas in Malay, this large emergent tree can grow up to 60 m tall. It is native in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. This tree commonly found in mixed dipterocarp forest on sandy clay soils, at 800 m altitude (Soepadmo et al., 2004). The timbers are used to produce furniture, flooring and construction (Meier, 2015). This species is globally assessed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss and selective logging for its timber (Mark et al., 2014).
