White-rumped Shama is a large dark bird in the Muscicapidae family. It can grow up to 28 cm long. It has white rump and long, blackish tail. The male has a glossy blue-black head, breast and upperparts, in contrast with deep orange rufous underparts. For females, it is quite similar to the male, but it has dark greyish head and upperparts, and duller rufous underparts as well as shorter tail (Jeyarajasingam, 2012; Lim et al., 2020). This species inhabits primary, logged and secondary forest and overgrown plantations. It has a wide distribution ranges from the Indian subcontinents, southern China through Southeast Asia to the Greater Sundas. In Malaysia, it can be found in every state except for Sabah (Lim et al., 2020).
