Description

Chalcorana chalconota (Copper-cheeked Frog) is a small to medium-sized frog with a distinctly pointed head and clearly visible eardrum. The female can reach a maximum size of 59 mm while the male up to 44 mm. This frog has moderately long legs and fully webbed toes. The tips of all toes and fingers are  expanded, forming rounded discs. The back skin of this species is finely pebbled, with an indistinct ridge or fold along each side which is rich green colour by day and brown at night. The sides of the head and body are usually brown or olive. Its upper lip is pearly white (Inger & Stuebing, 2005). The Copper-cheeked Frog feeds on many kinds of insects and spiders. It can be found perching in shrubs and small trees in primary and disturbed forests and may even occur in wooded gardens. This species is known definitely only from Java, southern Sumatra and Bali, Indonesia (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group 2018; Amphibian Species of the World, 2020).
