Description
The beautiful Hasora schoenherr commonly known as Yellow Banded Awl, is a species of butterfly belongs to the family Hesperiidae. It is widely distributed from India to Indo-china, Thailand to Java, and Sumatra to the Philippines. The species is moderately common in the forest up to the highlands (Kirton, 2014).
The Yellow Banded Awl is the most ornate Malayan butterflies member measuring about 2.5 cm (Kirton, 2014). This butterfly is dark brown above with four sub-apical pale yellow spots and three rather large yellowish hyaline spots on the forewing. It also has a broad yellow discal band on the hindwing, and the wing borders are marked with yellowish cilia. The underside pattern is similar to the upperside but has paler wing bases. The apical and marginal areas at the underside of the wings can appear dark purple in some side lights. (Corbet & Pendelbury, 1978).
