Description

Keruing kobis (Dipterocarpus confertus) is a medium-sized emergent tree that can grow up to 50 m tall. The leaves are concave in shape with drying pale honey-brown colour (Soepadmo et al., 2004). This species is endemic to Borneo. It grows in mixed dipterocarp forest on undulating lands and low ridges, at altitude 800 m. This tree is threatened by deforestation which is rife across the Borneo. The main cause that led to this is because the development and expansion of industrial agriculture, and also the construction of logging roads and other infrastructures (Bryan et al., 2013; Gaveau et al., 2014). In the IUCN Red List, Dipterocarpus confertus is globally assessed as Near Threatened (NT).
