Description

The Western Sunda Spotted Stream Frog is a small-medium frog with a triangular head about the same width as the body (Norhayati et al., 2005). Generally, this species has similar in habit and form with the Pulchrana signata (Striped Stream Frog). The Spotted Stream Frog has a dark brown or black body with lighter red or orange marking on the upper surface of the head and body. Its underside is dark grey with small lighter markings (Inger & Stuebing, 2005). Its finger and toe tips are swollen. The toes slightly more than half webbed and the dorsal skin finely pebbled. Males can reach a maximum size of 47 mm while females reaching a maximum of 68 mm in snout-vent length (SVL). This frog species lives along banks of the small to medium-sized streams in primary or slightly disturbed forests at elevations from near sea level to about 750 m. It can be found in Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Indonesia (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, 2018).
