Description

Chamalycaeus microconus is a small indigenous snail in the family Alycaeidae. It is distinguished by its tall spire, conical shell, constant-width penultimate whorl, and the cross-hatching of radial and spiral ridges in post-apical whorls (Foon et al., 2017). This species is only known from a single, relatively isolated limestone hill in Peninsular Malaysia, where it is only known from the type locality. Habitat degradation due to quarrying is the greatest hazard to this endemic land snail. As quarrying continues, it is estimated that this species will become extinct in the next 10-20 years (Páll-Gergely & Whitten, 2016).
