Description

Richetia balanocarpoides or commonly known as Damar Hitam Katup in Malay is a species of canopy tree that can grow up to 80 cm in diameter (Soepadmo et al., 2004). It is recorded in Sumatera, Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo where it occurs in lowland to hill forests up to 700 m altitude. In Sarawak, this species mostly found from Belaga, Bintulu, Kapit, Limbang and Miri districts (Soepadmo et al., 2004). Currently, it is listed as Endangered in IUCN Red List due to habitat conversion and logging activities (Symington, 2004).
