Rheinardia nigrescens, commonly known as Malaysian crested argus, is a large pheasant with an enormous tail belonging to the pheasant family, Phasianidae. The males, which range in size from 190—239 cm, are blackish-brown with peppered whitish all over the body. It also has buff supercilium, throat and drooping, blackish-brown and white crest. Meanwhile, the female is smaller than male, measuring about 74—75 cm. It has shorter-tailed, and is warm brown with blackish and buff bars, speckles and vermiculations. This species can be found in lower montane forests and tall hill dipterocarp forests in Peninsular Malaysia at an elevation between 800 and 1,150 m. They have very loud woo'o-wao sound at dancing grounds and also series of far-carrying oowaaaa phrases (BirdLife International, 2021; IUCN, 2024). Its diets consist mainly of invertebrates, mollusks, amphibians, small reptiles, bamboo shoots, leaves, fruits and fungi.
