Description

Tristellateia australasiae is a liana species belong to the family of Malpighiaceae. The genus name is derived from the combination of Latin word meaning three and star-like, representing the fruit appearances. While the species epithet means southern Asia. This species is commonly known as Shower-of-gold Vine which refers to the appearance of its flower. It can be found in Taiwan, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, throughout Malesia to North Australia, New Caledonia, and New Ireland. In Peninsular Malaysia, this species had been recorded in Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor. This species is also present in Borneo.

It can reach up to 10 m tall. The twig is dark greyish to red-brown and terete. The leaves arrangement of this species is opposite to sub-opposite, with scattered black glands on the surfaces. The fresh flower is bright yellow in colour with an ovoid ovary. The fruit is samara and turns reddish brown when mature (Lim, 2017).
