The cap of this fungus is convex to flat, round to irregularly rounded, hard and woody, surface very dark brown to black, concentrically zonate, glabrous but sometimes slightly glossy with a blunt margin. The pores are round while the stipe is cylindrical, often tortuous and dark brown to black. This fungus usually grows singly from the ground and is common in lowland rainforests throughout Malaysia.
