Description

Nepenthes albomarginata is a species of pitcher plant that native to Sumatra, Borneo and Peninsular Malaysia. It is known to grow in coastal mountain, lowland and hill forest up to 500–1,200 m altitude. The epithet albomarginata is derived from the Latin words where albus means white and –marginatus means margin, referring to the white band below the peristome of the pitcher (Cheek & Jebb, 2012).

This plant may reach up to 2–10 m tall with a cylindrical stem measuring about 3–5 mm in diameter. It has a leather texture leaves with narrowly oblanceolate to spathulate leaf blades. The lower pitchers are ellipsoid at the base and cylindrical above, reaching up to 8.5–15 cm long with 3.5–6 cm wide at the base and gradually reduce to 2–3 cm wide above. The pitcher has a pair of fringed wings up to 6 mm wide that extends above the peristome part. The pitcher’s mouth is ovate, while the peristome is cylindrical in cross section with indistinct teeth. It also has an ovate lid for the lower pitcher with no hairs on the lower surface but densely packed with crater–like arranged, ellipsoid nectar glands. Meanwhile, the upper pitchers are almost similar to the lower pitcher. They have cylindrical to infundibulate shaped pitcher and short wings extend above to the peristome with the lack of fringed elements (Cheek & Jebb, 2012).
