Description

The head of Variable Reed Snake is not distinct, but the shields are large. The body is dark brown or black above, with or without narrow, light stripes. The first one or two scale rows on the flank bordering the ventral shields are yellow, while the venter is yellow with or without black cross bands. This snake can be found under surface debris in lowland and hilly area up to 1,400m. Its prey includes frogs, earthworms and other invertebrates which inhabit the soil.
