The cap of this fungus is convex becoming plane with a depressed centre, dry, brownish grey to dark grey, densely velvety, the surface cracking into very minute scales and turning dark purplish brown and finally black when bruised. It has greyish white, bruising reddish and finally turning black flesh. Its gills are distant, thick, pale cream, bruising rusty red and then dark brown and finally black. This fungus grows in small group or gregariously on the ground and has been found under various dipterocarp at FRIM and also found in Malaysia lowland rainforests.
